The Hotel Roma is situated in the historical centre of Trieste on Via Carlo Ghega, 7. The street is named after the famous engineer who built the railroad between Trieste and Vienna. Via Ghega runs from Piazza della Libertà to Piazza Dalmazia. The train station at Piazza della Libertà serves trains to the main cities of northern Italy and is a short walk from the hotel. Following any road south of Via Ghega takes you to the grid of the 18th-century Borgo Teresiano where you can find numerous restaurants and bars. The Teresiano area was designed by Austrian urban planners during the 18th-century for Empress Maria Theresa and many elegant buildings are on show there. Various interesting buildings are scattered around the Borgo Teresiano, such as the Aquario Marino (aquarium), museums, light-house, Roman theatre and fish market. The churches in the borgo are worth visiting for their architectural diversity, as are the Church of Sant’Antonio Taumaturgo, built in a neo-classical style; the fine Romanesque Basilica di San Silvestro; and the Baroque Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The northern end of Trieste’s port, once a great port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the 18th and 19th centuries, is distinguished by a canal running through the borgo. East of the hotel is the main shopping boulevard Via Giosue Carducci. Visit the Colle di San Giusto and enjoy commanding views across the city and sea. The hill is capped by a 15th century castle complete with museum and basilica. North-west of Trieste following the coast takes you to the Riviera di Barcola, a stretch of coastline guarded by the gleaming white lighthouse the Faro della Vittoria (Lighthouse of Victory). At the northern end the beautiful Castello Miramare nestles in fabulous gardens overlooking the sea. How to Reach UsBy Plane: Ronchi dei Legionari International Airport is the closest airport to Trieste with direct flights to the major European cities and domestic flights to and from Rome, Milan and Genoa. Buses depart from the airport to the bus station regularly. The bus station is located to the west of Piazza della Libertà. By Bus: National and international buses operate from the station off Piazza della Libertà at Via Fabio Severo 24. By Train: The train station is at Piazza della Libertà 8. By Foot: From Piazza della Libertà, the Hotel Roma is a short 5 minute stroll. Walking to southern side of Piazza della Libertà you will meet the start of Via Ghega. The hotel is located at number 7.
